At the foothills of the Andes, where the desert meets the sky in Argentina’s Uco Valley, there is a stretch of vineyard that was never meant for vines. Before Malbec took root, this land carried something else: iron tracks and the long, patient lines of a railway that once cut through Tupungato.
The old railway is gone now—but not entirely forgotten.
The vineyard of Bodega Urqo still carries its memory in silence. Beneath the vines, scattered along the rows, lie the durmientes—the wooden sleepers that once supported the tracks. Weathered by sun, wind, and time, they remain as quiet witnesses to a different era. The wine takes its name from them: Los Durmientes—“the sleepers.”
Los Durmientes Malbec from Valle de Uco presents a deeply expressive wine characterized by a graphite-tinged nose with gentle floral hints that add elegance and complexity. On the palate, it reveals a serious and structured profile, rich in mineral and iron notes that underscore the wine’s terroir-driven character. The flavors are concentrated yet refined, combining ripe dark fruits with a firm backbone of tannins and vibrant acidity, resulting in a wine that is both powerful and balanced. The finish is long and persistent, marked by subtle earthy nuances and a refined texture, making it an excellent example of a high-quality Malbec from Argentina’s premium Uco Valley.
